5 KEY SKIN HYDRATION TIPS TO BOOST YOUR GLOW THIS SUMMER~ WITHINUS TEAM

We love summer - but towards the end of the season, our skin often pays the price from being dehydrated by the heat, sunscreen, and sun. We all know how important it is to keep hydrated, and we wanted to share some simple tips that will up your game so you can keep a healthy glow throughout the summer months.

Being hydrated is extremely important - it helps improve the general health of your skin as well as its overall appearance. Skin is the body’s largest organ, and has several important functions:

  • it helps regulate body temperature
  • it acts as an external barrier - protecting organs and internal systems from infection, toxins and chemicals
Skin that lacks sufficient hydration will become dry, tight, and even itchy. Dry, itchy skin can lead to cracking, and increase the risk of infection. Dehydrated skin is also more susceptible to wrinkles, and can look flat - lacking the radiant glow of healthy, hydrated skin.

Here is the withinUs Team's list of 5 key skin hydration tips to keep you glowing throughout the summer.

 1. DRINK MORE WATER

This is perhaps the most obvious solution to attaining and maintaining overall hydration. Drinking 8-10 cups of water not only helps flush out toxins in the body, it also helps reduce muscle cramps, is a natural headache remedy, and helps improve skin health, complexion and appearance.

When skin has sufficient amounts of water, it can plump up, which makes pores and fine lines appear less visible (important: it doesn't eliminate them). There are a variety of structures in the skin that require water to work effectively as well - including the structures that support collagen.

Drink up! If plain water isn't cutting it, try adding some fun flavours to your water. At the withinUs office we infuse our water with lemon, cucumber, mint and TruMarine® Collagen. This is a great way to spice it up, and make drinking water more exciting.

2. withinUs™ TRUMARINE® COLLAGEN

Collagen is the most abundant structural protein in the body, making up approximately 75% of our skin composition, making it a very important factor in skin health and hydration.

TruMarine® Collagen works from within, and is clinically proven to promote the production of collagen within the body. Collagen works from the dermis layer of the skin, and helps the skin rejuvenate, repair and very importantly - hydrate.

Hydration, just like skin health and beauty, starts from within. Ensuring your body is well hydrated with fluids is important, but ensuring your body has sufficient levels of collagen by stirring up 5g of withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen daily is equally important!

Since withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is the most premium grade of marine collagen available, it has a high absorption rate (bioavailability). Having a high absorption rate is key for our product, as it means you do not need to consume as much as other collagen products/sources to experience the benefits.

 3. (HEALTHY) FATS & OMEGA 3s

Fatty acids provide the building blocks your body uses to produce the oils in and on your skin. Healthy fats and omega 3s can be found in foods such as fish, fish oils, avocado, olive oil, nuts and seeds.

Avocados are a withinUs Team favourite! This delicious fruit (yes, fruit) is a great natural source of healthy fats - monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats to be precise. These fats are considered good fats because they are not saturated fats, and they are plant based, meaning the fat is an oil and not a solid fat. Avocados are also cholesterol and sodium free.

Try smashing avocado on a slice of Ancient Grain bread with a dash of pink Himalayan sea salt and pepper, it's our favourite!

 4. CAFFEINE AND ALCOHOL

Both caffeine and alcohol are diuretics which increases the amount of water and salt expelled from the body. This depletes the body of water, dehydrating the skin.

If you are finding you need an extra energy boost in the morning, try replacing your morning cup of coffee with a high quality matcha. withinUs™ TruOrganic™ Matcha contains half the amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee. It also contains a rare amino acid called L-Theanine which promotes the slow release of caffeine in the body. This means the energy provided by the caffeine lasts longer, and you will not experience spikes or jitters associated with coffee.

5. CLEANSE AND MOISTURIZE

Hydration comes from within, and cannot be achieved by only using topical creams and products. By exfoliating and moisturizing your skin, you are maintaining the hydration and health achieved by hydrating from within. Be aware when selecting products to use topically on your skin as there are many cleansers and moisturizers that contain alcohols that strip your skin of their natural oils, and dry out your skin overall.

Try one of our Team's go-to moisturizers. Sukin and Alba are two brands we love! Both products are earth friendly, use natural ingredients, and are affordable.
