Whether you are the outdoorsy type, a foodie or a city slicker, Vancouver. B.C. has something that appeals to everyone.
Beautiful mountains tower over a bustling city that sits on the edge of an endless ocean, what more could you ask for?
This city is full of amazing restaurants (that is another blog on its own!), shopping, postcard worthy scenery at every turn, and fun & adventurous outdoor activities.
Whether you're here on a family holiday, weekend get-away or a stay-cation, Vancouver truly has something for everyone. The TruMarine Team has compiled a top 5 list of some of our favourite places to go to in the city. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, we hope you can find the time to check a few of them out.
If you’re up for a big challenge and love to go hiking, this may be the trail for you. Reserved for the more experienced hiker, The Howe Sound Crest Trail stretches for 29km, running from Cypress Bowl to Porteau Cove. It takes you over multiple summits, including St Mark’s Summit - which can be done as a stand-alone day hike taking roughly 6-8 hours. Declared as a "summer only" trail, given the altitude and terrain of much of the Howe Sound Crest Trail, you’ll want to be prepared for snow, (yes, in the summer!). As always, we suggest that you make sure to read up on hiking safety and precautions before you venture out. Be sure to bring your camera, because the views of Howe Sound and the islands are absolutely breathtaking.
Explore 400-hectare of natural West Coast rainforest at world-renowned Stanley Park. Walk, hop on a Mobi bike, or rent a bicycle for two and go at whatever pace you wish and enjoy the gorgeous views along the 9km seawall. How about a game of golf? The 18 hole pitch and putt at Stanley Park Pitch and Putt is a guaranteed fun time. Looking to explore? There are many trails, three beaches, and historical landmarks to discover. Pack a picnic, or sit back and people-watch the day away as you listen to the waves of the ocean. If traveling with kids, this is the perfect place to explore for the whole family. From May - September the kids can cool off at the free children's water park or the fresh water (heated) pool at Second Beach. Also located in Stanley Park is The Vancouver Aquarium - Canada's largest aquarium. It is well respected for its research and marine stewardship. Visitors learn more about the region's marine life through the numerous exhibits.
Yes, it is called the Grouse Grind for a reason, and as challenging as it sounds, it’s definitely worth it. Once you finish that last step and break through the tunnel of towering trees, you are rewarded with a stunning view of beautiful Vancouver and a great sense of accomplishment.
If you're not into hiking, but want to experience the wonders of Grouse Mountain, you can take the Skyride to the peak. This gondola is North America's largest aerial tramway system and offers spectacular views of the city of Vancouver as well as the beautiful Pacific Ocean and Gulf Islands. It is a ride you will not soon forget. Feeling adventurous? Plan a few activities while you there, such as Mountain Ziplining, Tandem Paragliding or book a Helicopter tour -The sky is the limit.
Last on our list - but certainly not the least.....
From Vancouver, just a 2 hour drive along the scenic Sea-to-Sky highway, you will find yourself in Whistler. Whistler is world-famous ski mountain and resort, but many people do not realize that it is a year-round destination. There is epic skiing and snowboarding, four championship golf courses, and no shortage of beautiful hikes, shops, spas, restaurants and one of best mountain bike park in the world. Don't forget ziplining, bungee jumping, ATV tours and horseback riding. The fun never stops.
Lost Lake is one of our favourite spots in Whistler and is walking distance from the village. With swimming docks, BBQ facilities, it is easy to spend the whole day up there. It is a great place to watch the sunset on a clear, summer's evening. Oh, and it is also dog friendly (they even have a dog designated swimming area) which is a huge "plus" in our books!
What are you waiting for?
