SKIN SUN CARE 101

The importance of sun care
Summer is here and it’s time to talk about the importance of sun care.
Whether you’re hitting the beach, the park, or spending any time outdoors in the sun, sun care should be an important part of your daily routine.

Taking care of your skin contributes to overall health and wellbeing - after all, your skin is your largest organ and one of your skin’s main functions is to protect your body. Too much exposure to the sun can lead to damaged skin cells, dehydration, and other serious health concerns.

While wearing sunscreen, especially on the hot, sunny days of summer, is a key part of protecting your skin from sun damage, it’s not the only factor to consider. Increased exposure to the sun can cause wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots, among other skin problems, including increasing your risk of skin cancer. Luckily, taking care of your skin and protecting it from the sun is easier than you think. By being safe in the sun, your skin is sure to thank you.

Why make sun care a priority?
You’ve probably heard of the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D, and its importance to maintaining healthy bodily functions, such as protecting your bones and helping you absorb other vital minerals such as calcium. Vitamin D is produced by your skin in response to spending time outdoors in the sun.

While sunlight is essential to health, too much sun exposure can be harmful. Focusing on safe sun care can help ensure you get adequate exposure to the sun, while avoiding sun related damage.

Although applying sunscreen to your skin is a great place to start, sunscreen alone isn’t enough to protect your skin from sun exposure. Smart sun care includes focusing on limiting direct sun exposure. This doesn’t mean never enjoying the sunny summer rays, but being smart about how long you spend time in the direct sunlight, as well as avoiding exposing your skin to the peak sunlight hours (when possible)  from about 10am - 2 pm, when the sun's rays burn the strongest.

Products to use on your skin in the summer (vitamin E, Aloe, etc)
Using sunscreen isn’t the only way to take care of your skin. Show your skin some love by regularly moisturizing with your favourite natural products, such as a body moisturizer and exfoliating your skin to help refresh your skin cells and smooth your skin.

Consider using an aloe vera gel after exposing your skin to the sun, especially if you spent a bit more time in the sun than you planned. Aloe vera contains anti-inflammatory compounds that can help treat and relieve burns and dry skin.

Another secret to glowing skin from within is staying hydrated and drinking water, especially during the hot summer months when your body is working harder to regulate your internal temperature, and sweating more than usual.

If you find yourself having a hard time getting enough hydration throughout the day, withinUs™ ReHydrate + TruMarine® Collagen is a premium electrolyte drink mix designed to maximize your hydration, and improve healthy nerve and muscle function. While drinking water helps with fluid loss, it does not always replenish essential electrolytes lost through sweating, travelling, or through daily summer activities. Try adding a serving of withinUs™ ReHydrate + TruMarine® Collagen to your summer routine to help ensure your daily hydration needs are met.

How (TruMarine®) collagen helps
At withinUs™, we believe taking care of your health and wellness comes from within. For us, this applies to everything, including our sun care. Taking care of your skin from the outside is a key part to safe sun care, but it’s also just as important to focus on nourishing your skin internally.

Regularly incorporating withinUs TruMarine ® Collagen into your daily routine, can help improve your skin health by strengthening your skin, improving your skin's elasticity as well as  hydration. TruMarine ® Collagen has also been shown to help slow the aging of your skin by minimizing wrinkles and fine lines.

withinUs™ TruMarine® Collagen is mindfully sourced from a wild-caught, sustainable source. Collagen produced from wild-caught fish SCALES is clinically proven to be the highest grade, and more bioavailable source of collagen available. This means that TruMarine® Collagen absorbs more efficiently into the bloodstream, which is why the daily recommended serving is lower than most other collagen products to experience superior benefits.
